Is My Problem Worth Seeing Someone For?

Art by - Justyna Dorsz

Sometimes it's as simple as wondering if you are gonna get an auto to get you to your destination on time; sometimes it's an interview you are nervous for. Other times it's shaking, shortness of breath, not being able to sleep.

So when do I know when to see a therapist?

We are constantly trying to prove to ourselves that our problems are serious enough to seek help for. Is your turmoil distressing enough to warrant this monetary investment, time, and effort?

No problem is too small - there is no threshold that must be crossed, no criteria to be met.  Often there is an understanding that only those who are mentally ill go to therapists. This is absolutely untrue. Therapy really is for everyone. For people who just want to know how to deal with the fact that they are deathly afraid of spiders, for people who just feel like they want to work on themselves, for people who have gone through some traumatic event and don't know how to cope with it, for people who think that they just want to know how to be better at talking to their partners, or for someone who thinks that they might have a mental illness, or just for people who are curious to try it out. Therapy doesn’t have to be a long-term commitment; if you think that even just one session can help, then it will always be worth it.

But how do I know I need it?

Well, if it’s bothering you, affecting your capacity to function in your daily life to any extent, you feel like you would benefit from just talking to someone for a little bit, or if you feel like professional opinion would help, then you can always reach out.

At Amise Therapy, we prioritise your confidentiality and comfort, so no problem is too big or too small. We are experienced in working with various populations in various settings, and hold ourselves to gold standard ethical and clinical practice. We are here to help with a single session that you might need a day before a big event or finding your therapist that you turn to for all your needs.
