Depression

When everything feels heavy.

Days that feel flat. Getting out of bed takes everything you have. Things you used to enjoy don't land any more. Low mood and depression are common, they're not a personal failing, and talking helps.

A bad week, or something more?

Everyone has low days. It's worth reaching out when the heaviness lasts for two weeks or more, or starts getting in the way of sleep, eating, work, studies or relationships.

Some signs people describe: feeling numb or empty, losing interest in things, tiredness that sleep doesn't fix, finding it hard to concentrate, feeling worthless or guilty, and pulling away from people.

How counselling helps

We go at your pace. Some sessions are about understanding what's weighing you down. Others are about small, doable steps that slowly bring energy back, because with depression, action often comes before motivation, not after.

No topic is out of bounds, and no emotion is banned. You won't be told to "just think positive".

Therapy and medication

We don't prescribe medication or give diagnoses. For moderate to severe depression, therapy alongside medication from a psychiatrist often works best. If that might help you, we'll help you find one.

If you're not safe

If you're thinking about harming yourself, please don't wait for a session. Call Tele-MANAS 14416 (free, 24×7) or see our emergency helplines.

Questions people ask

I don't have the energy to explain everything. Can I still come?

Yes. You can start with a single sentence. Your therapist will ask gentle questions, and you can go as slowly as you need.

Can I keep my camera off?

Yes, especially at first. Do what makes it easier to show up.

Is it really depression if I'm still functioning?

Many people with depression keep going to work or class while feeling empty inside. You don't have to be falling apart to deserve support.

How do I help a friend who's depressed?

Listen without fixing, help with small practical things, and gently suggest support. If they talk about not wanting to live, help them call Tele-MANAS (14416).
